Regeneration Project: Albert Hall, Swansea
The regeneration of the historic Grade-II listed Albert Hall in Swansea was a challenging yet rewarding project. Closed since 2007, this former music hall and cinema has been meticulously restored, preserving its historical integrity while modernising it to meet current needs. The revitalised venue is now a multipurpose cultural hub at the heart of the community.
In June 2024, the Albert Hall reopened its doors, transformed into a vibrant space that includes a food hall, bar, meeting rooms, private dining suites, a performance stage, 1st-floor offices for local businesses, serviced accommodation units, a rooftop garden, and a gym. This redevelopment has given the iconic landmark a new lease of life, ensuring it remains a central part of the city’s cultural landscape for years to come.
The project required the installation of over 150 flush paint-grade fire doors, both standard and glazed. For the main public areas, the contractor opted for a contemporary dark grey finish, while the doors in the accommodation units were painted a clean white.
JB Kind’s in-house FD30 glazing service played a pivotal role, supplying Certifire approved Type 12 glazed doors. The flexibility of JB Kind’s glazing service was crucial in the contractor’s decision making, alongside the efficient call-off service, which ensured doors were delivered on schedule as the project progressed. In addition to fire doors, JB Kind also provided FD30 fire-rated glass for a number of glazed screens.
JB Kind’s Sales team worked closely with the contractor and local merchant supplier, ensuring smooth communication and resolving any potential issues or delays quickly. This collaboration was key to keeping the project on track.
JB Kind’s in-house joinery workshop worked diligently to meet the project’s glazed fire door requirements within a tight deadline.
Our skilled joinery team take great pride in their work, carefully cutting out the apertures before fitting the fire glass and beading. Each door is glazed with meticulous care, ensuring compliance with our Certifire certification and maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

“Our merchant supplier recommended JB Kind as a door supply partner, and we were not disappointed. Their ability to glaze fire doors quickly, even on a tight timescale, made our decision easy. Their sales team maintained close contact throughout the project, ensuring everything ran smoothly, which was much appreciated. JB Kind also supplied FD30 fire glass for our glazed screens, which was an added bonus and simplified our procurement process.”
Simon Johnson, JB Kind’s Sales Director, commented:
“We are very pleased that our FD30 glazing service contributed to the success of this large-scale regeneration project. Meeting stringent fire safety standards while delivering high quality doors was our top priority.
“Our call-off service is designed to help customers stay on top of their projects, giving them peace of mind knowing their doors will be ready and delivered on time. It’s one less thing to worry about when managing a complex project.
“Swansea now has its Albert Hall back, and it’s truly an impressive venue that will serve the community for many years to come.”
