What the Colour of Your Bathroom Says About You

Posted: 5 Aug, 2024.

The colours we choose for our interiors can reveal a lot about our personalities and preferences. Nowhere is this more evident than in the bathroom, the sanctuary of your home where you’ll start and end your day.

In this blog, we explore what your choice for your bathroom interiors says about you, the impact it can have on your mood and the best ways to style your preferred shades.

White bathroom

A white bathroom is a classic, timeless choice. If you’ve chosen a white bathroom, you likely prefer to keep things clean and simple. The colour white is associated with peace and purity, which great things to have in your bathroom. White also reflects light, which can help a room to feel bigger, perfect for smaller bathrooms so they never feel crowded.

There is, however, a danger of white bathrooms feeling a little too clinical. To avoid this, utilise textures to add warmth and comfort – think white fluffy towels and bath mats, rattan storage baskets, and even some leafy houseplants. Sticking to neutral, natural colours will retain the peaceful, relaxing feel of your white bathroom.

Blue bathroom

A blue bathroom immediately invokes visions of the sky and the sea. Blue interiors can help to make us feel calm and relaxed, bringing an association with nature and the outside. If you prefer a blue bathroom, you’re likely to enjoy classic, timeless styles.

Blue bathrooms work with nearly any shade of blue, from soft pastels to dark navy. You could lean to an eclectic, bohemian style, keep it clean and crisp, or go for a classic coastal vibe. Blue is a fantastic shade for adding a little colour without going overboard, showing off your fun side whilst keeping the overall feel laidback.

Black bathroom

A black bathroom is a bold, sophisticated choice. Combining black and white shows you like to keep things balanced and zen, whereas opting for more black suggests you like it when things are a little more dramatic and luxurious.

Black interiors can done in an opulent style – think gold fixtures and baroque patterns, or industrial – consider out industrial style doors to complement your black bathroom along side burnished metal accents. There can be a danger with black bathrooms becoming too dark and dingy, so make sure there are plenty of light sources in the space to keep it bright.

Green bathroom

Green bathrooms have an instant association with nature. They suggest an affinity with the outside and adventure, whilst remaining soothing and peaceful. A bolder green bathroom, such as a forest green, suggests you like things a little more opulent and sophisticated, whilst still feeling safe and secure.

Choosing green for your bathroom is great if you want to go for something a little different in your interiors. At the same time, the colour green is associated with balance and harmony, so it can be perfect for bathrooms. Green works especially well with wooden cabinets and accents, to expand the connection with plants and nature.

Pink bathroom

The colour pink is associated with feelings of joy, passion and playfulness. A soft pink is ideal for bathrooms, as you can inject some personality while keeping the space calming. However, if you want to spark more joy and excitement, a vibrant pink bathroom can be a great choice.

Whichever shade you choose, a pink bathroom suggests you like to keep things light and playful. You can enhance your creativity by pairing pastel pink with a soft green, which has a fun but sophisticated feel.

Yellow bathroom

A yellow bathroom brings feelings of happiness and confidence. If you’ve chosen a yellow bathroom, you’re likely to be optimistic, always looking on the bright side. Yellow interiors show you’re not afraid to make a statement, although you can tone things down by opting for a softer, more muted shade if you prefer.

Yellow bathrooms can look especially striking alongside black accents or keep things more traditional by pairing yellow walls with a white bathroom suite. There are all kinds of styles that work with yellow shades, from rustic cottagecore to vibrant maximalism – all will bring a sense of energy and optimism.
